A Workout for Your Eyes
Vision therapy is a personalized treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and perceptual-cognitive deficits. These treatment sessions include activities that strengthen the brain’s ability to control:
- Eye alignment
- Eye-tracking & teaming
- Eye focusing abilities
- Eye movements
- Visual processing
By using specialized computer and optical devices, such as prisms and filters, our team can help improve the strength of the visual system. Vision therapy helps patients gain confidence in their ability to learn, read, and function.
Can’t Glasses Fix the Problem?
Some visual issues can’t be corrected by just glasses or contact lenses. Vision therapy is individualized for each child because each child’s eyes are unique. These sessions address the visual system as a whole.
It may be time to visit your optometrist if you catch yourself saying:
- “My child is bright, but struggling to keep up in school.”
- “Homework with my child is always a struggle.”
- “My child has 20/20 vision, but isn’t performing well.”
The 20/20 Myth
20/20 vision only means that you can see a certain size of letter from a certain distance. While 20/20 vision is great, it doesn’t mean your child is free from other visual issues.
A child with 20/20 vision can struggle with learning. They may see words moving around on the page or letters reverse and swap places. They may have trouble focusing or experience discomfort when staring for long periods.
Acknowledging a Problem
Vision therapy is a great way to help children gain confidence in their ability to learn. Because vision therapy helps strengthen the entire visual system, children can perform better academically and in extra-curricular activities, such as sports.
If you have concerns about your child’s vision, visit us as soon as you can to get help sooner.
